How to Check Your UAE Overstay Fine Online (2025)

If you're worried you've overstayed your visa or entry permit, you can run an over stay fine check UAE-wide in under two minutes using your passport or file number. No need to visit an immigration office just to see the number.

Where to run the check

Two portals, depending on which emirate issued your visa.

ICP (federal — everywhere except Dubai residency visas): Go to icp.gov.ae → Services → Public Services → "Pay Fines" or "Violation Inquiry". You'll need either your passport details plus nationality and date of birth, or your unified number (the one starting with digits printed on the visa page). The UAEICP mobile app does the same thing and is honestly faster.

GDRFA Dubai (Dubai-issued residency visas): Use gdrfad.gov.ae or the Amer app. Enter file number or passport, and any residency-related overstay shows up. Visit visas issued through Dubai are also checkable here.

If you entered on a visa on arrival or a tourist visa, the ICP system is the right one. Dubai residency holders sometimes appear on both — check both if the first returns nothing.

Watch out: the "Smart Services" section of the old MOI portal now redirects to ICP. Bookmark icp.gov.ae directly to skip the detour.

What you'll actually see and pay

Overstay fines in the UAE are AED 50 per day from the first day past your permitted stay, following the fee restructure that took effect in October 2022 (previously it was AED 100/day for residents and tiered for tourists).^[1][2] There's no longer a grace-period fine or higher first-day charge for most visa categories.

A few points that catch people out:

• Residency visas get a 30-day grace period after expiry or cancellation before overstay starts counting. Overstay begins day 31.^[2]
• Tourist and visit visas have no grace period in most cases — the day after expiry is day 1 of overstay.
• The fine keeps accruing until you either exit, renew, or get a status adjustment. It doesn't cap.
• Service and knowledge fees (usually AED 10–30) are added at payment.

You can pay directly on the same ICP or GDRFA page by card. Print or save the receipt — immigration at the airport will check it if there's any dispute at departure.

If the fine looks wrong

Options:

1. Enter your unified number instead of passport — sometimes the passport-based lookup misses a renewal linked to your old passport.
2. Call ICP on 600 522222 or use the AskU chatbot on icp.gov.ae. Have your file number ready.
3. Visit an Amer centre (Dubai) or a Customer Happiness Centre (ICP emirates) with your entry/exit stamps or boarding pass as evidence.
4. File a grievance through the ICP portal under "Complaints and Suggestions" if you believe the fine is calculated incorrectly. Response is usually 3–5 working days.

If you're mid-status-change (e.g. cancelled one visa and applying for another), the 30-day grace window covers you — but only if the new application is filed inside that window. Miss it and overstay applies retroactively from day 31.

Paying and clearing before you fly

You cannot board an outbound flight from a UAE airport with an unpaid overstay fine. Immigration will hold you at the counter until it's settled — and airport payment terminals charge the same AED 50/day plus a small processing fee.

Pay online before you go to the airport. The over stay fine check UAE portals both accept Visa, Mastercard, and Apple Pay. Payment clears in the immigration system within minutes, but give it an hour before departure to be safe.

One more thing: if you've been out of the country while your visa expired, the overstay clock generally stops at the exit date shown in the system. Bring exit-stamp evidence if the online record disagrees.
