Services you can get done in one visit

The big draw is bundling. You can test the car, settle outstanding fines, renew registration, and grab new plates without leaving the compound.

What's on offer:

• Vehicle technical test — mandatory annually for cars older than 3 years. Around AED 170 for a light vehicle (test + renewal certificate).^[1]
• Registration renewal (mulkiya) — done the same visit if the car passes.
• Ownership transfer — buyer and seller both attend with Emirates IDs and a valid insurance policy in the buyer's name.
• Export certificates — for cars leaving the UAE.
• Plate replacement and number purchases.
• Fine payment and Salik top-up.

You'll need: Emirates ID, current mulkiya, valid insurance certificate (must cover at least 13 months for renewal), and the vehicle itself. No insurance, no renewal. That part catches people out.

Watch out for the 30-day grace period after expiry — drive past that and you're looking at AED 500 in fines plus AED 25 per month of delay.^[2]

Hours, queues, and timing

A few practical notes. The compound is large and signage between Tasjeel, Shamil, and the salvage yards isn't always obvious. Use Google Maps and search the specific centre name, not just "RTA Ras Al Khor." Parking is free but fills up.

If your car fails the test, you get 30 days to re-test once for free. After that, you pay the full fee again. Common fail reasons: worn tyres, broken lights, tinted windows over 50%, and exhaust modifications.
